Stress & the “high D” Style…
To better understand how stress impacts people and how they react to stress, look into behavior/communication styles. Regardless of your role, technology and a global workforce have increased the speed at which we work, live and play. It may help to reduce stress in many ways, but stress levels at work have increased for many.
Lets take a look at the first of the four core behavioral styles as it relates to stress, learn more about each style with this free DISC e-book:
What causes a “high D” dominant style stress:
- Loss of control (perceived or real)
- People “dragging their heals” on work and/or decisions
- Personally or others under-delivering on work
How might they react (behave) under stress – indicators you can be more aware of include:
- Looks and acts with little to no patience
- Becomes argumentative, a one-way communicator
- Oversteps authority
- Focuses on task vs. anything/anyone else
- Short-tempered and anxious
How to deal with the reactions:
- Confront them on dysfunctional behavior
- Provide them an opportunity to tell you what needs to be done
- Focus your offers of support on accomplishments – getting “IT” done
